Alameda's Hammond Named Library Director in Lexington, KY
Aug 13, 2010Ann Hammond, deputy county librarian at the Alameda County Library, Fremont, CA, has been selected to be Executive Director of the Lexington Public Library, KY, besting two other finalists. She will begin in September.
Hammond oversees all community services in the Alameda system, which has a main library and nine branches. Lexington has a main library and five branches.
Hammond who has a master's in agronomy and soil microbiology along with her library degree, was a forensic scientist, a botany instructor, a stay-at-home mom, and an officer in the Navy. She was principal librarian of the San Diego County Library and a librarian for the Center for Injury Prevention Policy & Practice in San Diego.
"Ann has a wide variety of experience, and that brings something unique to this leadership role," said Buzz Carmichael, chairman of the library Board of Trustees, in a news release. "All our finalists were more than qualified for the position, but Ann just had the perfect combination of personality and skills."
The job has been open since CEO Kathleen Imhoff was fired in July 2009. (She has since sued the library.) The library's first choice this past winter declined the job offer, so the search was reopened.
