Cuyahoga Library Expands Circulating Toy Collection to All Branches

Cuyahoga Cunty Public Library (CCPL), Parma, OH, had been lending children’s toys through its Brooklyn Branch for over 15 years. As of December 10, the Toy Library program expanded to all 28 CCPL locations, thanks to a donation from Giant Eagle, a local grocery store chain. CCPL cardholders can reserve a toy through the library’s web site, and pick it up at a branch of their choosing. They can be borrowed for three weeks at a time and are renewable.
CCPL’s library administration building serves as the distribution hub, and toys may be returned at any CCPL branch. The toy collection is organized in age-appropriate categories to make it easier for parents to locate the right toy for their child. Categories include literacy, math, music, games, active play, and more. There are over 300 different kinds of toys to choose from, with each item accompanied by a brief description.
The collection can be viewed in picture catalogs located at each branch and on the library’s web site. The Brooklyn Branch Library will retain its own separate toy library collection, as it is funded by an endowment established for this purpose. Visitors to that branch have immediate access to onsite toys.
