Among the day's most entertaining, inspiring, and informative tweets with the #ala10 /#ala2010 hashtags: the World Cup, the brilliance of Tony Morrison, Cory Doctorow, and Cherie Priest, and the occasional celebrity sighting (Ralph Nader, Marlo Thomas, Darth Vader).

lhrtobos: thank you toni morrison and #ala10 for reminding me why i want to be a librarian

michaelsaar: In all the hubbub of #ala10 I forgot that the NHL draft was today!

rudibrarian it just seems lots of ppl enjoy ala but then turn into the annoyed librarian when they get home. Conference bubble #ala10

ShawnWeisser: RT @greglandgraf: Mick Jagger wanted to be a librarian. Will that help #ala10 become a trending topic?

Wribrarian: "We tend to take our libraries for granted, like tap water. We turn the facuet & the resources flow out." -Toni Morrison #ala10

librarygilana: Walking around the exhibition area earlier, I passed a man, thought "huh, he looks like Ralph Nader." Looked @ his tag: he was. #ala10

detailmatters: RT @librarienne: Toni Morrison worked in a library! As a very, very slow page since she "had to peruse every book" she paged.

#ala10 carolineashby Left #ala10 program on (future of) books for the print disabled feeling so so jazzed. Got schooled, but also got to thinking.

AndresHenriquez: On shuttle to DC sitting next to "That Girl" Marlo Thomas. I think she's on her way to #ala10 too.

ann_ewbank: Glad to see so much focus on advocacy @ala opening general session #ala10

ebethmoreau: Just got mistaken for a local and asked for directions, probably because I was NOT carrying a totebag. #ala10

librarian_kate #ala10 is still not a trending topic on Twitter. Come on librarians! Tweet harder! Tweet harder!

morganmundum As JFK once said of DC-"wonderful combo of northern charm and southern efficiency" #ALA10

ALAtotebag: Hipsters and Librarians are well suited. Both are over educated and the majority are underemployed. #ala10

skerijayne: Jacob Nadal digitization talk - concise, covered all the basis, excellent all round. Best talk at #ala10 so far!

kenleyneufeld: Cory Doctorow returns to the librarian audience. Thank you. #alasf #ala10

ehampton: Some storm troopers and imperial guards just wandered through the exhibit hall at #ala2010

ffyreflyy: Steampunk: reduce, reuse, recycle. #brownisthenewgreen #alasf #ala10

hmccormack: Gene: "iPad will be rebirth of illuminated manuscripts" [hmmm though gotta admit GNs look great on it] #ala10

AphroditicLens: "Steampunk is what happens when goths discover brown" - Cherie Priest #alasf #ala10

amyjothompson: Main speaker for this is a person who is deaf, talking about the importance of literacy. Very powerful. #ala10

2nickels: Want to know what a bunch of librarians stuffed into a phone booth would look like? Try the books for beginning readers session. #ala2010

awhitis: Have you ever considered how committee membership is like being in a vampire clan? Who bit you? #ala10

vizlearning: #ALA10: session on #ebooks- Kindle not faring well - too fragile for students (3 of 15 broke @ 1 school); restrictive multi-licensing

TrillScott: Yay! I see myself on the huge monitors displaying tweets from #ala10. Go Gates Millennium Scholars Program!

CopyrightLibn: Heh! @doctorow's suggestion for new lib funding stream? RT @kenleyneufeld Float bonds based on library fines (and derivatives). #ala10

politelibrarian: I may not win an iPad, but I will certainly win a lot of junk email while trying. #ala10

KOrtizzle: I'm so amused by the number of #worldcup Tweets that are followed up by an #ala10 Tweet from the same person LOL

dorevabelfiore: Kareem Dale, specialist on disability for the Obama admin., was surprise speaker for OITP panel on resources for visually impaired. #ala10

InfoWitch: Love that the first male editor we are hearing from is reading from Ally Carter's 4th Gallager Girls book. #ala10

politelibrarian: The one Ghanian librarian at ALA starts to taunt American colleagues. #Ala10 #worldcup
